Different regions of Greece have different cuisines.
Because Turkey ruled Greece for a significant period of time, the cuisine of Greece is largely influenced by Turkish cuisine, though other countries, which ruled those regions, also influence the regional cuisine.
While Ionian islands are greatly influenced by the Venetian and English style, Chios has strong Turkish and Genoa's influence. Crete has a significant Turkish, Venetian and Arabic flavour.
In Crete a good amount of yogurt is used into cooking which is the result of Turkish influence.
Although, the food in Greece traditionally consists of non-vegetarian stuff, there are a lot of vegetarian items available in Greece too.
Though it is not a vegetarian friendly country, the food of Greece includes a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish.
